2. For how many marks is each paper for?

Ans. Each paper has a theory component of 80 marks and a practical component of 20 marks. The practical marks will be an internal assessment in the form of a project.

Ans. The time for both English I & II will be 3 hours each.

4. What does the internal project of English I test students on?
Ans. The project of English I will test students on their listening, speaking and writing skills. The students will be given time to prepare for the same.

Ans. There are three books prescribed by the ISC Board.

7. What does the internal project of English II test students on?

Ans. Students will be required to write a written assignment in 1000 –1500 words on either drama, short story or poetry covered during the year. The project is for a total of 20 marks and will test the students on understanding of the topic and analysis of the chosen subject.

8. What is the structure of the English II paper?

Ans. Students will be required to answer five questions as follows:

One textual question (compulsory) on the Shakespeare play together with four other questions on the three texts.

Question 1 is compulsory carrying 20 Marks and the four other questions, each carrying 15 Marks. The textual question, which will be set on the Shakespeare play, will contain three short passages and candidates will be required to answer questions set on two of the passages. These Questions may require students to explain words and phrases, to rewrite passages in modern English, or to relate an extract to the work as a whole. The rest of the questions on the Shakespeare play and on the other prescribed texts will be set on the episodes, the plot, themes or ideas, characters, relationship and other prominent literary qualities of the texts prescribed.

9. Will scoring a good percentage in Std. 10 English give me an upper hand in English I/II?

Ans. General English in ISC is very comprehensive and requires the student to practice what is taught in class diligently. It is not to be taken lightly as it is a compulsory subject and can enhance your overall percentage to a great extent.

10. Will online sources like Sparknotes and Cliffsnotes be of help if I miss an English class?

Ans. No. The ISC Board has prescribed the books which has the appropriate language needed to write answers. Refer to the workbooks prescribed for you and be regular in your class participation and be attentive as what you learn in class is most important to write the best answers in English.

General English
General English at the ISC level consists of two papers (Paper I; II)

Paper I is based on English Language, with the aim to develop the ability to use the English language for the purpose of study and also to have social and cultural interactions.

Paper II is based on English Literature. [Prescribed texts. Drama, Poetry and Prose]. Through the study of literature, students should develop the power of expression and acquire a sense of aesthetic values. They should also be able to inculcate an interest in the thought and culture of the peoples of the world.

6. Is the practical exam internal or external?
Ans. Practical exam is external. Board conducts practical exam for Physics Chemistry and Biology for 15 marks and the project mark is also given by an external examiner. They have no viva for the project.

7. How is the aggregate calculated for ISC board examination?
Ans. English + best of three from the four core subjects.
Eg: In PCMB combination marks are taken from English + best three of PCMB.

8. Can a subject that is dropped in ISC be pursued later in graduate courses?Ans. NO. You cannot drop out of subjects
Eg: A student takes up PCBHSc in ISC, he/she cannot take up Math in graduate courses nor are they eligible to take up engineering courses.

9. Can a student opt for Commerce/ Humanities after ISC science?
Ans. YES. For degree he can do that.

10. Does the school offer coaching for entrance exams?
Ans. NO. Only syllabus pertaining to ISC is taught. But the subjects are dealt with in depth.

 1. What do you study in ISC Economics?
Ans. In grade 11 students study about:

• What Economics is about- its scope of study, types of economies, problems faced by various economies and solutions to them

In grade 11 students have two rounds of unit tests carrying 50 marks each, a term exam for 100 marks and an annual exam conducted by the board.  The allocation of marks is 80 marks theory and 20 marks for project work. Two projects each carrying 10 marks should be done by the students under the guidance of the subject teacher. In grade 12 students have two rounds of weekly tests each carrying 25 marks, a term exam, a preparatory exam and a model exam each for 100 marks and finally the board exam conducted by the board. Two projects [20 marks 10 +10] should be done by each student to be evaluated by the subject teacher and an external evaluator who would also conduct a viva for the same.

Sport refers to an institutionalized game. Through sport participation, students can understand and develop many core values such as national identity, perseverance, commitment, responsibility, respect to others, love and care, integrity, collaboration, solidarity, fair play, etc. Sport is an important medium for the implementation of PE.
a) Is P.E difficult?
Ans. P.E is a scoring subject, which is easy to understand and learn.

b) How is the marking system in P.E?
Ans. Theory paper will be for 70 marks and practical work will be for 30 marks.

3. Will the students have to come early or stay back after school for any physical training for the subject?
Ans. All practices will be done during the P.E class hours.
PE practical’s is for 30 marks and we have an external examiner for the board exam

4. Is practical’s difficult in P.E for the students?
Ans. Practical’s is not difficult for the students as training will be given to improve progressively but being medically fit is important.

• NIOS is “Open School” which caters to the needs of a heterogeneous group of learners up to pre-degree level. It was started as a project with in-built flexibilities by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 1979. At the Secondary and Senior Secondary levels, NIOS provides flexibility in the choice of subjects/courses, pace of learning, and transfer of credits from CBSE, some Board of School Education and State Open Schools to enable learner’s continuation.  A learner is extended as many as nine chances to appear in public examinations spread over a period of five years. The credits gained are accumulated till the learner clears required credits for certification. The learning strategies include; learning through printed self-instructional material, audio and video programmes, participating in personal contact programme (PCP), and Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA). Acknowledging the fact that the young entrepreneurs will be the wealth of the nation, the learner friendly Vocational Education programmes of NIOS provide excellent prospects for the learners. It offers Vocational Education programmes in different areas such as Agriculture, Business and Commerce, Engineering and Technology, Health and Paramedical, Home Science and Hospitality Management, Teacher Training, Computer and IT related sectors, Life Enrichment Programmes and General Services. 

1. How are the exams conducted?

• • Internal exams ( conducted by school)
  • During the academic year, the school will conduct
  • 2 tests in July and November  
  • 2 exams in September and February
  • Apart from these the students will be continually evaluated throughout the year using CIA (Continuous Internal Assessments)
  • External exams (conducted by the NIOS board)
  • 2 board exams in March/April (subjects: painting & DEO)
  • 2 board exams in September/October (subjects: bakery/DTP & English)
  • 2 board exams in March/April  (subjects: home science/business studies & social science)

2. What does the NIOS curriculum demand of its students?

• The students need to keep up with the lessons taught in school by revising them every day at home. They need to write notes regularly. (Those needing a scribe, additional time in submission of notes, abridged version of the notes, photocopies etc will be allowed. This will depend on a case to case basis). For subjects having a practical paper, (painting, DEO, home science) students have to maintain a practical record book.
• Parents also need to take an active role in their ward’s learning progress especially with regard to notices that the school sends via edumerge and the school diary for academics and the NIOS dashboard/website for registration details, exam fees, dates etc.

3. Is it easy to get admission into colleges after NIOS?

• Yes. All colleges have a quota for NIOS students. All our previous batch of students have secured admissions into reputed colleges. Please remember that this is a curriculum that is recognised in India and abroad as it is similar to CBSE and the text books are from NCERT.

4. How do I get the textbooks for NIOS?

• All the students will receive their text books directly from the Board upon completion of their registration with the NIOS board. This may take a couple of months to arrive. In the meantime printouts of the first few lessons in every subject can be made as all the text books are available in the pdf format on the website.

5. How do I register?

The registration process is 2 pronged.

a. Registration into Bethany NIOS
b. Registration into NIOS board, New Delhi

To be done in the first week of June.
Documents required during registration:

• Latest photograph of the student
• Birth certificate
• Address proof
• ID proof
• Previous year’s original marks card
• Signature of the student on a plain white paper
• Latest assessment report – single page (only for LEAP students) from Spastics or NIMHANS
